EU Backing
SolWinHy Cádiz has been awarded more than €25 million in funding as part of the second EU Hydrogen Bank auction, a competitive process under the EU Innovation Fund and financed through the Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The project is one of only 15 selected across Europe, affirming the credibility of our approach to renewable hydrogen and e-fuel production. This recognition not only reflects our team’s dedication but also signals growing confidence in green hydrogen as a core pillar of Europe’s decarbonization strategy.

SolWinHy Cádiz’s selection underscores the strength and relevance of Viridi–GreenEnesys Group’s innovative approach. Our project, located in Arcos de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain, is set to become Europe’s first fully off-grid renewable methanol facility, powered entirely by a 130 MW solar plant and a 54 MW wind farm. With an 80 MW electrolyzer, it will produce approximately 6,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 29,000 tonnes of renewable methanol annually, significantly contributing to decarbonization in hard-to-abate sectors such as maritime transport and chemicals.
About the Innovation Fund
The Innovation Fund, one of the world’s largest funding programs for innovative low-carbon technologies, is financed by the EU ETS and aims to drive Europe’s green transition. SolWinHy Cádiz is proud to contribute to this mission and looks forward to playing an active role in scaling up renewable hydrogen across the continent.
A Vote of Confidence
We view this funding as a strong vote of confidence in our vision, our technology choices, and our experienced team. SolWinHy Cádiz is a prime example of successful collaboration between Spain and Germany, reinforcing our role as a key player in Europe's growing green hydrogen market. The EU Hydrogen Bank was launched to accelerate the rollout of cost-competitive renewable hydrogen. SolWinHy Cádiz’s selection confirms that green methanol is increasingly recognized as a viable and scalable energy carrier. It plays a crucial role in supporting the EU’s ambition to cut emissions from sectors where electrification is not yet feasible.
“The confidence shown in this project reflects the growing trust in the RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) market. It demonstrates that projects like SolWinHy Cádiz can successfully deliver clean fuels and actively support the hydrogen economy across Europe.”

Next Steps
Our immediate focus is on securing the final permits and preparing for construction, anticipated to begin in 2026. In parallel, we are advancing development across our broader portfolio of green hydrogen and e-methanol projects in Spain.
