Overhill Farm
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project sold in the United Kingdom
The Overhill project is a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development located in Rothiernorman, Scotland. This project is part of a joint venture between One Planet Developments Limited, Viridi RE, and Green Enesys Group. Spanning approximately 3.6 hectares (9 acres), the project is strategically situated adjacent to the new 33kV Rothienorman substation. The planning application for the project was submitted on October 21, 2022, with a determination by March 1, 2023. The Overhill BESS project is scheduled to come online in the fourth quarter of 2024. This project represents the first successful exit for the joint venture, which is developing a pipeline of over 1GW of UK BESS and solar projects and has been successfully sold to Pulse Clean Energy.
The Overhill project features a total capacity of 50 MW, covering a 3.6-hectare site. The project has a 40-year lease period. Key advantages of the project include enhanced grid stability, improved energy efficiency, and the ability to store and supply energy during peak demand periods.
Throughout the entire development process, close collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders was maintained to ensure the project's successful completion.
